optomap Retinal Exam…

As an essential part of the comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Wilmes recommends that all patients have the internal health of their eyes evaluated every year.  Normally, this is done through dilation of the pupils.  However, our office is proud to offer an alternative to this procedure…  The optomap Retinal Exam.

The optomap is a state of the art technology that utilizes both a red and green wavelength laser to capture digital images of the inside of your eyes in less than a quarter of a second.  These images are available immediately and will be reviewed with you on your exam date.

Other advantages to having this procedure performed:

  • Eliminates the need for dilation of the eye (in most cases).
  • Testing is fast, easy and has no side effects.
  • Can be performed on children and adults with highly accurate results.
  • Used to confirm a healthy eye, but also has the ability to identify unknown eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal holes/tears/detachments, ocular tumors and many others

Humphrey Matrix Visual Field Test

The Humphrey Matrix Visual Field Test is a quick and user-friendly method of assessing an individual’s entire scope of vision, that is their central and peripheral (side) vision.  Visual field testing actually maps the visual fields of each eye individually by plotting the patient’s sensitivity to a set of stimuli presented to them.  This test is useful for early detection of many common eye problems that occur along the entire vision pathway.  These conditions include ptosis (upper eyelid droop), macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, glaucoma and other abnormalities resulting from tumors and strokes.
